Poor Bear Update 3: Development Progress

in

From our last post, you got a glimpse into Trevor's mind and where things were headed from a design standpoint. This update shows the concrete transition of those elements into the game. The title screen and elements have been incorporated, along with stunt recognition (flips, wheelies), item collection, and finer game controls.

Help make Poor Happy!

As you can tell, Poor Bear's life is starting to hype up, but we have him running in different directions. He is a little confused and we'd like your input. How? Well we've played with different goals for Poor from beat the buzzer to collect and score. What do you think would make Poor fun? Either of those? A combination? Or something else? We have tons of ideas, but would like to know what you think in terms of the fundamental game play. Please share your thoughts in the comments or with us directly!

I like the backflip! It has a nice BMX feel. Makes me want to do a Can-Can by tilting the iphone around the X axis. Then you could do a backflip Can-Can.

What about best combo moves or biggest wipeouts? I don't believe I've ever seen someone rewarded for crashing spectacularly. I remember that java game dismount back in the day (http://jet.ro/dismount/). Generally don't like time based stuff - all about the flow (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flow_(psychology)). What about the ability to draw on the screen to create ramps? Would be cool to help design the level as you go and not rely on it totally being baked in.

Backflips shoul be rewarded with some points. If the user sticks the landing and falls into a wheelie.. thats a combo move, more points.

If the title screen was interactive slightly, just enough to move the items around by tilting the screen. Maybe the title cards can fall down instead of going up.

If the bear blows a transformer he should get fried, but he still can play considering he lands properly. And the animation for the electrocution would be funny hell.

I was thinking a combination collect, score, and perhaps time. Then the sum of all 3 could total up to high score. Also, if there was a way to share those online that would be awesome.

looking forward to the release!

You know how birds like to hang out on power lines. Maybe put some birds on the lines at various places that you have to jump over (hit them and get slowed down or something). Can you make the bike jump manually? If not, maybe filter for a sudden/jerky vertical motion to signal for a jump. I also like the before-mentioned idea of getting fried on a transformer. Thats funny.
