Challenge
Solution
Dreamsocket was brought in to develop an ad-based, trackable video gallery that would be fun and approachable for kids. We did not approach this task as building an application; we saw it as an opportunity to bring smiles to children’s faces around the world. Perfection was our objective.
Working through many iterations of IA, backend architecture and user focus tests with CN’s internal team, we were able to build an application that delivered cartoons to kids in the blink of an eye. From Ben 10 to the Powerpuff Girls, the next time their favorite show was on was entirely at their discretion. Not just an ondemand gallery, the applications put kids in charge of their experience. They could now choose how they wanted to interact with their favorite shows, with the ability to collect favorites, browse, search and provide comments.
Technically the Cartoon Network video applications worked flawlessly, scaling infinitely and performing at lightning speeds. The first implementation delivered Windows Media instead of Flash video, but the application could deliver either format thanks to our flexible framework. Once the decision was made to migrate to Flash completely, it happened in a few hours. Good architecture does equate to good business. Over 2 years and counting, Cartoon Network has added a successful new network to its list of accomplishments.
